A jury of experts selected these and other works from over 220 submitted projects and concepts for “Dare to Design” to reflect the breadth of innovative power of design talent – from circular product design for electronics and wind energy in urban areas to medical solutions using 3D printing and robot-assisted craftsmanship.
Master's students Lea and Geraldine Kutschke represent the HAWK Faculty of Design at "Dare to Design".
Designers are using concepts that are complex and sometimes simple, yet all the more intelligent, to shape the future. This also applies to the work of two students, Lea and Geraldine Kutschke, from the HAWK Master's program in Design. They asked: "What prevents adolescents and young adults from taking sun protection measures, even though they are aware of the health risks of UV radiation?" To exploratory study the attitudes and behaviors of the target group, the students modified the Cultural Probes method according to the research project and examined the issue from an interdisciplinary perspective of health promotion. Based on their study, they discussed influencing factors and barriers and derived recommendations for future campaign concepts. Designers put together cultural probes as a collection or package of different materials. The researchers give this package to the users, who in turn use the materials specifically in their everyday contexts. In this way, the users make the use of the probes accessible to the designers.
